We all have a natural inclination to improve upon the old self and test our self-esteem and capability through new accomplishments. Most of us want to make a difference in the world. Most of us want to live life as fully as we can. So each year we take another look at ourselves and decide to be better.

So how do we keep the goals we set? Well there are two really boring words called discipine and committment that many of us have forgotten about in this era of instant gratification.

There are however, certain guidelines that can keep you on track.

Rule 1: Make your goal your own.

Personal goals are meant to ignite great excitement within the goalsetter. If you don’t feel excitement at the thought of your goal…perhaps it’s a goal that you feel you “ought to” achieve rather than one you really want to achieve. Take a moment to check in with yourself and ensure your goals reflect your most heartfelt desire and watch your sudden energy surge.

Rule 2 : Value your goals.

Always set goals that are in line with your most important values, you are more likely to accomplish the goal. Which also means that you must know what your most important values are. Is it family, friendships, spiritual, education, success at work? Values are always personal so only you can answer this one. Take a minute to write them down. YES WRITE THEM DOWN!

Also if you set value-based goals that cover all aspects of your life you are less likely to experience warring priorities. Suggested areas to consider when goal setting include :

Family and Home

Financial and Career

Spiritual and Ethical

Physical and Health

Social and Cultural

Mental and Educational

Rule 3: Believe You Can Accomplish the Goal

Yes even the sane amongst us have Little voices in our heads telling us their opinions on any actions or decisions we make. The positive self talk and planning support the accomplishment of our goals. Negative thoughts and comments undermine our self-esteem and self-confidence, and negatively impact our ability to accomplish our goals.

Your positive outlook and belief in your ability to accomplish great goals fosters your increased self-esteem and self-confidence. This, in turn, magnifies your ability to accomplish more and contribute more to your life goals.

Remember that you cannot afford a negative thought. When it arrives contradict it with a positive thought and notice how that makes you feel and behave. Yes it really is that simple. Oh yes and you need to take actions that support the positive belief eg. you want to lose weight and your negative self talk tells you not to bother exercising because every time you’ve done it in the past it’s failed, you lack discipline and you’re too lazy to go ahead with the exercise program. If you chose to listen to the negative self talk then you will do nothing and continue to gain weight and be dissatisfied with how you look. However, if you counter the original negative self talk with positive self talk and tell yourself that you do have the discipline and commitment to do the exercise program then you pick up your gym shoes and throw on your exercise gear and exercise then what you’ve just done is confirmed to yourself that you are disciplined and that you will take the necessary action required to achieve your goals. And with the knowledge that it takes 21 days to create a new habit-push yourself that bit extra each and every time the negative self talk comes along and you’ll find your new healthy habit as easy and normal as brushing your teeth.

Rule 4: Make your goals measureable.

Goals become easier to obtain when the outcomes are measurable. With goals that are hard to measure, start with a picture in your mind, that you commit to paper, that describes the outcome you are seeking. Make the picture as vivid as you can.Revisit this picture, either on paper or in your mind each and every day. This will allow your subconsious mind to look out for ways to obtain your goal. The way this works is similar to the way your subconscious mind works when it recognizes something new. For example, you’ve just bought a new car of a particular model. Previously, you never noticed it on the road. Now you see it everywhere. So in relation to your goals, by picturing what you really want either in a collage version, a drawing or simply in your mind’s eye your subconsious will start to see examples of your goal everywhere. This in turn will give your mind the assurance that your goal is attainable and you will start finding extra opportunities simply because of the fact that you are now tapped into a new vision and mindset.

Rule 5: Write your goals down!

Those who write their goals are more likely to achieve them. Why? Because writing out your goal is your commitment to achieving the goal. Writing a goal is a powerful statement in comparison with half-formulated thoughts in the back of your mind. It is the conscious promise to yourself to pay attention to the accomplishment of the goal. Writing out potential action plans and due dates makes the goal even more powerful.

Rule 6: Share Your Goals Selectively

The same way you cannot afford a negative thought, you also cannot afford negative non-constructive people in your life. Ok it may be hard to avoid a sibling, spouse or co-worker. But if you know that they’re only going to criticize your plans keep your heartfelt desires to yourself and spend your time finding someone who will help you accomplish your goals instead.

Rule 7: Monitor Your Progress Daily

If you take the time to ask yourself what you’ve done as far as taking an action towards your goal each and every day you’ll find yourself getting closer and closer to your goal at a much faster pace. You don’t need to take massive action, just consistent daily action no matter how small. Break your goal down into bite sized chunks that are achievable to you.

Rule 8: What’s Getting in your Way?

Not getting to where you want to be fast enough? Ask yourself how much this goal really matters to you. If at a deeper level you don’t care about fitness you’re going to find it very difficult to make the necessary changes to your mindset. Ask yourself questions such as, “Is this goal really important?”

If you are not making progress on a particular goal, attempt to do a root cause analysis to determine why. Be honest with yourself about your goals and revise what truly matters. Perhaps you forgot to check in with your core values. These can’t be ignored. Reassess, and always TAKE ACTION!

Visualization is not necessarily a meditation technique, but it can be very effective when used in a meditative state. Your mind is already very relaxed and empty – and open to suggestion.

In the same way that you can utilize your voice, so, perhaps more powerfully, you can use your imagination. The imagination can stimulate emotions, and these can register new attitudes in the mind. It can be a direct communication with the deeper levels of the mind and can provide a powerful influence for improvements in your attitudes, behavior patterns and overall confidence.

Visualization requires that you imagine yourself in a particular situation, behaving, reacting and looking as you would wish to do at an interview, an important meeting, a social gathering, a one-to-one situation, or perhaps a sporting event (or really any situation that you specifically want to do well in).

Imagine what that will mean for you, your reactions, the reactions of those around you and, importantly, feel all the good feelings that will be there when this happens in reality.

It is like playing a video of the event, on that screen on the inside of the forehead, the mind’s eye, from the beginning of the situation through to the perfect outcome for you. Should any doubts or negative images creep into your “video”, push them away and replace them with positive ones. Keep this realistic, and base it upon real information from your past.

Once you are happy with the images you are seeing, note the way you are standing and presenting yourself. Then allow yourself to “climb aboard”, and view the scene from inside your imagined self. Now you can get in touch with the feelings and attitudes that make the event successful.

The best time to do this is when relaxed mentally and physically – during meditation is the perfect time. Teach yourself to expect new, positive outcomes. This can be combined with affirmations, to make it doubly effective.

Many people have a problem when it comes to realizing their dreams and visions. Especially now that the New Year is starting, people are making New Year resolutions or trying to accomplish the resolutions that they did not realize last year. There are several things that you need to do to make sure that whatever you set to accomplish comes to pass.

Communicating to others your vision is a key element of actualizing personal growth. Words create thoughts; anytime you open your mouth to say something you activate your mind to think. And the more you speak the more the ideas come into life. In creation, God created what was in His thoughts and since we are created in God’s image we have the same ability.

The other thing about communicating your vision is that it breeds accountability. Look for people who you respect or relate with and share with them your dreams and visions. This will motivate you to work harder since there are people who will later come to ask you how far you have gone in achieving your set goals.

Writing down your vision is very crucial in achieving personal growth and development. Every time you write down your set goals, it organizes your thoughts. If something was vague, when you put it down in writing it brings about clarity. In fact, other ideas start emerging when you write.

To build momentum and actualize your dreams write down your vision. Constantly, refer to what you wrote down and evaluate how far you have gone, periodically. Rather than write your vision on a piece of paper which later can get misplaced, take a book that you love reading and jot your goals on the cover. Personal growth is a journey and you need to involve others in order to reach you destination.

Self improvement is a journey and to discover more on this click the link below.

Born and brought up in the business clan of the social order of India, Shamit Khemka is a born leader with the constant yearning for excellence through innovation. For Shamit (the CEO and Founder of SynapseIndia –the leading outsourcing/ offshoring service provider located in India), success is the direct outcome of innovative ideas implemented without delay. Perhaps that’s the reason why he stepped into entrepreneurship at a very young age.

Commerce graduate from St. Xavier College, Shamit was resolute about launching his own business venture right from his college days. It was the tenacity towards turning his innovative ideas to actions that resulted in him becoming an entrepreneur soon after his graduation. Instead of following the path already trodden by his ancestors and follow the family business of running the flour mills, Shamit came up with something ground breaking. Launched in 1994, Pharos Infotech was the first commercial venture of Shamit. Pharos was the first online company in India that offered the Bulletin Board Service (BBS) with email facility in India – even before VSNL. The company offered IPP (Internet Presence), web services, VOIP and technology consulting.

Soon after Pharos, Shamit launched his second pioneering entrepreneurial venture called Sampatti.com (in 1998). Sampatti.com was the first to introduce the concept of online real estate directory and database to the real estate investors in India. Dedicated to the realty industry in India, Sampatti.com received applauds from the real estate investors in India for its innovative database and directory on real estate.

Synapse India is the latest jewel to deck the crown of success Shamit Khemka wears. The company is a Microsoft Certified Gold partner and has won the prestigious CMMI level-3 accreditation along with the reputed NASSCOM and FICCI certifications. Growing at a remarkable 100% rate every year, the company is a preferred outsourcing/ offshoring partner for businesses based in the USA, UK, Australia, Canada and other countries.

It’s the unremitting faith and dedication in achieving excellence through innovation that helps Shamit be a winner and attain success in every step (i.e. the entrepreneurial ventures) he assumes. Bearing leadership in his veins, Shamit owes his success to the constant devotion to achieve success by being innovative.

The Second Part Of Reaching Your Goal Is Your Ability To Receive.

More and more I hear people vent their frustrations at having a good education and also having job experience but for some reason, and this is the frustrating part…they always seem to fall short of their goals. Year after year they just come up short of their goals.

They naturally ask, “Why?”

I believe that I can sum up their problems in one word…beliefs! You see it’s your beliefs that are the operating programs you live by. Your beliefs define what is possible and impossible. The real kicker is that most of your beliefs are not really even yours. They are beliefs handed down by others…who by-the-way didn’t get much of a result from them either. They were accepted by you at an age when quite honestly you just didn’t have the experience base to know what you were doing.

Negative beliefs can sabotage your most earnest desires by giving you the sensation that you aren’t smart enough, you didn’t go to the right school, no one else in your family was successful so why you? Beliefs can also bring with them the sensation that even if you were successful, you wouldn’t be able to handle the success, or worst you just can’t handle another failure.

None of these circumstances are really true; they are simply your beliefs. Where I find people really running into problems is how they try to handle their beliefs. Most want to struggle against the beliefs, try to deny them, fight them, or just try to block them out of their minds altogether.

The problem is that all of these approaches only make the beliefs stronger because they focus energy and attention to the beliefs. This approach is never going to produce the results you’re really looking for.

You don’t have to understand the old belief to move on. What you do need to do is create a new belief, a new habit, one that is directed toward your goal. Not one riddled with doubt but one dripping with certainty…the certainty that you have already achieved the object of your desire.

In my first video tip I mentioned that there were 3 things necessary to reach your goal. You must first ask, and then, second, be willing to receive and finally, third, you must take action. The process of creating a new belief is that process of receiving. If you have set a worthy goal, that is one that will not only benefit you but those around you, but some belief keeps getting in your way time and time again, then it is time to create a new belief that is congruent with your goal. This is part of the process of asking.

What good is a pitcher without a catcher…it wouldn’t be much of a baseball game. The same applies here. What good is a goal, to ask for something that would improve your life, without the belief that allows you to accept it?

- Set goals. The evidence is clear. People who actually clarify and write out their goals are infinitely more likely to achieve them than the people who don’t. Make them clear and specific. Energetically, there’s a big difference between, “Make more money this year,” and “earn at least $100,000 in 2010.” State your goals in a clear and measurable way, so that it is easy to tell whether or not you have achieved the goal.

- Align your goals with your purpose. The clearer you are about your purpose, about what ignites your passion and is truly “on track,” for you in your life, the more energy you’ll naturally have as you pursue your goals, and the less likely you’ll be to get distracted or discouraged along the way. Not clear on your purpose? Stay tuned for an upcoming article on Honing in on Your Purpose.

- Decide to make your relationships even better! Make a list of your relationships with family, friends and co-workers and look at how you could improve them. How would you rate each of your relationships on a scale from 1 to 10? What could you do, or stop doing, to increase that rating? Make a decision to raise the rating of each relationship, and create a plan!

- Create time and space for yourself. Running on empty can be the fastest way to sabotage your goals. What refuels you? Even if it’s just 10 minutes a day to sit still and do nothing – Make Time for Yourself! Start small, maybe 5 minutes a day of movement (sun salutes are a simple and powerful yoga exercise that will really get your blood pumping and your body loosened up, even in only 5 minutes) and 5 minutes of sitting (meditation is great, but so is just plain old day dreaming). After a week of 5 minutes of each, see if you can increase this to 10. In a month or two, work your way up to 20 minutes a day of movement, and 20 minutes a day of sitting. By the way, sitting in a tub of warm water doubles or even triples the relaxation benefit!

- Create support structures for yourself and your goals. Have you noticed how hard it can be to keep promises to yourself? Or to sustain a new routine in the face of all the old “pulls” on your time? So much of what we do minute by minute, day by day, is shaped by the world around us – by our environments. By creating structures of support –carpool with friends to the gym, have lunch and swap recipes with a friend who is also changing their eating habits, join a mastermind group to brainstorm and get support – all of these can make a vital difference in your success. Or you can consider something simple like keeping the TV remote control in another room, in a locked drawer far away from the TV.

These are just a few ideas to help you change old habits, and create space in your life for more of what matters most to you, like working on that new business idea, or spending more quality time with friends and family.

I still wonder what the frenzy is all about come the beginning of a new year. Suddenly you will hear people making grand and brilliant resolutions only for them to die out come February. I think to some people, they just want to show off and make others see them as goal oriented. But in real sense they have not decided to get down to achieving these resolutions.

Resolutions or setting goals should not be done only during the beginning of the New Year, when you are at a pub taking beer with your friends. The idea of setting goals is to help you achieve a greater purpose which is to realize your vision in life.

Visions are better reached at when they have been broken down into small goals which are easy to accomplish. I would compare a resolution to your body; your body is made up of limps, the head, stomach and other body parts which all work together as a unit to make sure that your body functions well.

When you come up with a resolutions, it is imperative to break in down to other small resolutions which would assist you achieve your major target. Setting goals will help you to think of ways of achieving your vision in life thus plan well and attain personal growth.

You need to make resolutions on things you have a passion for; otherwise they will turn out to be just but wishes. Whenever you want to achieve something, you need to want it so much just as you require oxygen to live. Do not resolve to do something just because your close friend is doing the same; rather let a resolution resonate within your inner being.

Setting goals is one of those things we fully intend to do, but never quite get round to. However if you realise just how much your life could be improved by this one simple task, you would make the time! Below are just 5 of the benefits to setting goals, so have a read through, then take 30 minutes to really think about your goals and write them down.

When you reach this target you feel great!

Inevitably there will be a few ups and down on the way to achieving your goal – these are par for the course and you must be persistent enough to work through them. Keep looking at your end point and its benefits and remember, persistence WILL get you there!

When they are written down as goals, you can plan the time to make them come true.

Put yourself in the top 3% now and see your success and confidence sky rocket.

Write it down in the morning, plan half an hour to do it and then feel the satisfaction when you put a big line through the to do list! The more you do, the more confident you become and everyone could do with more self confidence!

Remember goals don’t have to be huge, life changing aims. Start with tiny things and see how good it feels to achieve something, no matter how small.

I cannot stress enough how important it is to actually write down your goals. So take action now!

Download the workbook below which has a specific section on goal setting, grab a pen and a cup of tea and take 30 minutes to write down 3 goals you want to achieve.

You will amaze yourself!

Planning is the key to achieving personal growth and success in life. When you do not have a plan, is like sailing to a far destination with out a compass. Therefore, as we enter a new decade, what are your plans? As you make preparations to set goals, let them be for the next ten years and then put structures that will ensure you realize your set goals.

It does not matter if your colleague got his tenth degree or your friend finally bought his second car and it made you feel like you need to catch up. Even though your brother got married and signed a profitable settlement in case of a divorce, it does not mean you have to do the same. We all have different destinies, and remember that eventually you are the one who will live with the choices that you make.

When setting goals, make sure they are achievable and that you have the capability of realizing them. Write down your goals and give time lines of when you are required to achieve them. It has been proven that when you put something down in writing, you are more likely to accomplish it than just talking about it in the heat of the moment.

As I earlier mentioned, do not carry out something just because your peers are pursuing the same. To achieve success and thus personal growth you need to do what you love most. This will ignite passion within you to follow up until you succeed even when faced with challenges. Realize that your success is pegged on you and you alone.

The new year has arrived - a clean slate and a new start… This is an opportunity for many people to step back from their businesses and take a good look at what is working, what is not working and where do they want to go. So, are you ready to make 2010 your breakout year ever and explode your bank account?

I’m going to share with you the strategies and a roadmap to use for setting your goals and creating your vision. I learned these on a training call with one of my personal mentors, Norbert Orlewicz, a true leader, coach, visionary and a very successful network marketer. These strategies work as Norbert used them to build his 7-figure business in just a couple of years, after struggling in network marketing for 6 years!

A fact is, success doesn’t happen by accident and you can’t simply sit back and wish for it to happen. I often hear aspiring network marketers say: “I hope this works for me”. The truth is, it probably wont, because if you’re hoping something will work for you, you’re leaving it up to some chance or “magic” to become successful. Unfortunately that’s not going to happen

Setting goals is the key to your success. Period. And there is a lot more that goes into achieving your goals than just writing them on a piece of paper.

Here are the strategies:

1. Creating A Vision In 2010

This is more than just setting your goals and it’s very important as it will determine your success. You need to get connected to your ‘WHY’ and keep reminding yourself WHY you are doing what you’re doing. This is your vision, misson and driving force. If your ‘WHY’ is big enough, then you’ll figure out the ‘HOW’.

In network marketing, just like in any other industry, you’ll encounter obstacles and challenges and you would have to embrace that if you want to be successful. So, if your WHY is not big enough, then you’ll feel sorry for yourself, crumble and go back to your comfort zone. “Don’t wish it was easier, wish you were better. Don’t wish for less problems, wish for more skills. Don’t wish for less challenges, wish for more wisdom” ~ Jim Rohn

2. Begin With Where You’re At

This is when you review and reflect on the previous year to see what has worked, what didn’t, what were your successes, failures, good and bad decisions. It’s very important that you do this and think about how you can improve.

You also need to begin in gratitude. And this can be a challenge if things are not going well in your business – you may be frustrated, stressed and desperate to see your desired results. So, when you’re setting your goals in that state, you’re in a place of need and desperation. And that’s not a great place to be in if you want to create abundance. You must practice living in abundance. You have to decide in your mind that you’re successful and do the things that successful people do.

3. Design Your Life

Goal-setting is important for every aspect of your life, not only for your business – relationships, family, emotional, mental, physical, spiritual, career and financial. So, you need to set goals and create a vision for your entire life. Think about the things that you want to achieve in life and focus on them. In my experience, they will be on your mind all the time. The key to having success in your life and in your business, is to know exactly what you want and stick to it. Many people try different opportunities, ideas and systems and quit when things don’t work out.

4. Work On Yourself

Most people work on their goals and successful people work on themselves. You see a goal is an effect and the cause is YOU. The issue is not your debts, your marriage, your business and so on, the issue is YOU. You must work harder on YOURSELF through personal development, than on your business. Ask yourself: “What do I have to BECOME to achieve my goals?” So, you need to focus on improving yourself, your attitude and skills and everything else in your life will improve.

5. Visualisation

Do you visualise the things that you want in life? Make this a part of your life, create images of what you want to achieve and think about them all the time. Begin to act as if you already have what you want. Start acting like you’re already successful, then your daily activities will show that you are.

6. Take Massive Action

For every goal that you have set, you need to have clear action steps with deadlines. You need to implement right away, build a momentum and have a sense of urgency in what you do. Do you have the burning desire to succeed? “If you greatly desire something, have the guts to stake everything on obtaining it”. ~ Brendan Francis

These strategies will change your life and business in ways you could never imagine!
